What I’m Reading Now: Is There Still Sex in The City

I had the pleasure of meeting Candace Bushnell, author of the super popular, Sex and the City, at a book event last week hosted by Rakestraw Books. It was a small intimate event with about 40 people at a house up in the Danville hills. She was promoting her new book, Is There Still Sex in the City. Ms. Bushnell spoke candidly about dating in her late 50’s after her divorce (She was in her 50’s at the time she wrote the book but is now 60. She looks amazing and I would’ve never guessed her age). She was so funny and witty. Then afterward, there was a Q&A session. She revealed that her new book was being made into a TV series. I watched Sex and the City and also Lipstick Jungle (I still can’t believe THE Andrew McCarthy was in it!), so I am looking forward to this new one.

I was towards the end of the line to have my book signed and to take a picture with her. I asked the lady in line after me to take a photo and as I was about to leave, I checked the photo and was horribly disappointed to see that the picture was super unflattering. I had also asked her to take a few as I’m an awful blinker in photos but she had only taken one. Candace Bushnell and I both looked like a sack of potatoes, which couldn’t be correct because Ms. Bushnell is super thin! I was just going to forget it and call it a night but it bothered me because I had really wanted to get a photo with her.

I decided, what the hell…to just go for it and ask if I could retake the photo and she was so gracious to do so. Luckily the super nice person (I forgot to ask her for her name, but she was so nice!) who helped us take the photo took a bunch and got some great shots! I left there like a happy kid!
